Anti-corruption campaigner Vitus Azeem has called for a stronger focus on enforcing Ghana’s existing anti-corruption laws rather than drafting new legislation.
This stance counters a recent statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which cited a lack of adequate laws to combat corruption and advocated for the introduction of more effective legal measures.
Vitus Azeem contends that the fight against corruption does not depend on new laws but on the effective implementation of the existing legal framework.
He emphasized that Ghana already has enough laws to address corruption and that the priority should be on proper enforcement, thorough investigations, and actionable outcomes for reported cases.
He highlighted the failure to investigate credible allegations of corruption and the lack of follow-up on findings undermine the fight against graft. According to him, without stringent enforcement and appropriate sanctions, corruption remains an attractive and low-risk activity for individuals.
