The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akufo Dampare, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize peace and unity as the country approaches a critical phase in its electoral process.

Speaking at the Church of Pentecost in Accra on Sunday, November 24, 2024, he urged citizens to be active participants in preserving the nation’s stability by coupling their prayers with actionable efforts.

He emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in ensuring a peaceful election period. He appealed to the public to avoid actions that could disrupt the country’s harmony and to encourage others, including family and community members, to act responsibly. He stressed that peace is a collective responsibility, requiring every citizen to play their part in maintaining order and security.

He highlighted the need for vigilance, urging citizens to report any activities or behaviors that could threaten the peace of the nation. According to the IGP, this partnership between the public and law enforcement is essential in addressing potential disturbances and ensuring a safe environment during and after the elections.

IGP Dampare also commended the Church and the larger Christian community for their prayers, acknowledging their role in fostering peace and stability. However, he reiterated that prayers must be accompanied by deliberate actions to yield tangible results. By positioning themselves as instruments for positive change, he noted, Ghanaians can ensure that their prayers for the nation’s peace are answered.

He encouraged them to lead the charge in promoting unity and setting an example of lawfulness. He emphasized that by working together, citizens can secure Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of peace and democracy on the global stage.
