ECG calls on Nuri customers to disregard credit stocking advisory after upgrade

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a clarification regarding a previous notice advising Nuri prepaid customers to stock up on credit in anticipation of a system upgrade.

The initial notice which was released on Saturday, November 23, had urged Nuri customers to purchase enough credit to last for a month to avoid disruptions during the upgrade of the Standard Transfer Specifications (STS) metering system, including the Nuri prepaid meters.

In a statement ECG’s General Manager for External Communications, Charles Nii Aiku Aiku, has explained that the STS system upgrade had been successfully completed as of yesterday. However, field officers are still engaged in ongoing upgrade-related activities. As a result, ECG has urged customers to disregard the earlier advisory that had caused concerns.

He clarified that the original notice was intended to prevent panic among customers, as there was a possibility that some might experience difficulties topping up their credit during the upgrade. H3 said the company had recommended customers purchase credit in advance to avoid interruptions. Now that the core upgrade process has been completed, he reassured customers that the issues related to topping up should no longer occur.

Despite the completion of the main upgrade, Mr. Ayiku emphasized that field officers would continue with other related tasks.

He extended the company’s apologies to all Nuri customers for any confusion caused by the earlier advisory and assured them that the system’s ongoing updates would enhance their service.
