The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has responded to recent remarks by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who characterized his tenure as one plagued by persistent power outages, popularly known as “dumsor.”

In a recent speech, President Akufo-Addo referred to Mahama as a “failed president,” citing his inability to secure a second term as evidence of his poor performance. The President further argued that, unlike other past leaders recognized for their impactful legacies, Mahama’s administration is synonymous with the energy crisis that disrupted the nation.

President Akufo-Addo also dismissed the NDC’s proposed “24-hour economy” policy, questioning the feasibility of such an initiative under Mahama, given his governance track record.

“If he could not keep the lights on for 12 hours during his tenure as president, how can he sustain a 24-hour economy? Stop that lies,” the president said.

During his tour of the Western Region on Tuesday, John Dramani Mahama refuted the claims, stating that the power challenges, or “dumsor,” had been resolved before he left office in 2017.

Mahama further criticized President Akufo-Addo’s remarks, describing them as false and unbecoming of a leader of his stature.

“I expect that when NPP is telling lies, they’ll leave it to the younger ones and the junior ones to do. But when the senior ones like Nana Akufo-Addo say that ‘dumsor’ was not solved before they came, I heard him say that if we could not keep the lights on, how can we run a 24-hour economy?

“In 2016, ‘dumsor’ had been solved. Nobody’s lights went off in 2016, nobody had load shedding in 2016, that is on record,” he responded.

Referencing the Bible, Mahama highlighted that liars have no place in heaven.

“You know, liars cannot go to heaven and let me give you a Bible quotation, Proverbs Chapter 19:9, he said, those who bear false witness will not go unpunished and the liars will be destroyed,” he emphasized.
