The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has reinforced its anti-corruption mandate to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

The OSP has pledged to prevent, control, and address corruption, fraud, and unfair practices that could compromise the electoral process.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 2, 2024, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng emphasized the legal implications of falsifying election results, cautioning officers responsible for vote counting, collation, transmission, and publication against engaging in such illegal activities. The statement described willfully falsifying vote accounts or making false returns as a serious offense.

The OSP also reminded the public that engaging in corrupt electoral acts, including vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, violence, or impersonation, is prohibited under the law. Such actions undermine the democratic process and attract severe penalties.

The OSP assured Ghanaians of its vigilance and commitment to addressing any reported instances of electoral malpractice. It called on citizens to uphold the principles of transparency and fairness during the electoral period to ensure credible outcomes.

“The OSP it is alive to its mandate and would promptly address any such occurrence which comes to its no its notice”, part of the statement read.
