Bawumia commissions E GATE at Kotoka International Airport

Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has commissioned an electronic gate (E-GATE) system at the Kotoka International Airport.

The commissioning which was held today, Tuesday, December 3, 2024 railed in stakeholders in the aviation industry, members of the immigration service and other security services to witness the introduction of this technological advancement set to transform the passage and arrival of travelers.

Dr. Bawumia explained that the new system has launched Ghana into a new digital age and will enable a smooth and seamless passage for passengers who arrive at the Kotoka International Airport.

With globally standardized systems and intriguing perks such as artificial intelligence, biometrics and data, processing system and easy accessibility, the E-GATE system is expected to improve on turnaround time for passengers on arrival and professionally handle all border management issues and any unauthorized entry into the country.

“These advancements reflect our readiness for the fourth and fifth industrial revolutions ensuring adaptability for future innovation, built by Ghanaians, for Ghanaians. These E-GATES are a symbol of national pride and ingenuity. The new border control system and the E-GATE at the airport are designed to benefit a wide range of travelers and citizens, members of the diaspora and visitors”. the Vice President said.

Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey speaking at the commissioning noted that the E-GATE is expected to enhance border controls.

“The gates will enhance the Ghana Immigration Service’s ability to launch data and track persons who are of security concern.”

The Controller General of the Ghana Immigration Service Kwame Asuah Takyi while praising the government for the initiative said, “The E- GATE is a significant step forward in achieving the government’s digitalization goal,”
