The presidential candidate of the New Force Movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission’s (EC) handling of the accreditation process ahead of the December 7th elections.

Addressing the press on Thursday, December 5, Nana Kwame Bediako described the process as discriminatory, restrictive, and a violation of democratic principles.

According to him, the EC’s requirement for individual letters and passport photographs for accreditation, with an unrealistic 48-hour deadline, has rendered the task impossible. Meanwhile, he said in other cases, individuals are reportedly receiving accreditation without submitting such documents, creating inconsistencies and confusion.

He criticized the current state of democracy in the country, alleging that political institutions prioritize the interests of dominant parties over fairness and inclusion. He questioned why smaller parties and independent candidates are often sidelined in favor of the two leading political parties, undermining the essence of multi-party democracy.

He expressed concern about the impartiality of the country’s institutions, including the media and government agencies, suggesting that they are overly influenced by politicians and external forces. This, he warned, undermines the trust and confidence of citizens in the democratic process.

Despite these challenges, he reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing volunteers and agents to ensure the New Force Movement’s participation in the elections. He called on Ghanaians to stand for democracy, fairness, and transparency, while urging the EC to prioritize inclusivity and accountability in its processes.
