The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has called on Ghanaians and political stakeholders, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to exercise patience as the commission works to finalize the presidential election results.

Speaking as the returning officer for the presidential election, Mrs. Mensa reassured citizens that the electoral process remains transparent and inclusive, with political parties and observers actively involved at every stage.

“It has only been 23 hours since the start of the process,” she said. “The commission’s system is elaborate and inclusive. It involves political parties and observers at every step to ensure that the outcome reflects the will of the people.”

Mrs. Mensa acknowledged the concerns and anxieties expressed by some citizens and political groups but emphasized the importance of allowing the EC sufficient time to review and validate the results thoroughly.

“As the commission, our goal is to alleviate fears and uphold the will of the people as expressed at the polls. This is captured on the pink sheets. However, it is important that we all remain patient while the EC ensures accuracy at the national level,” she noted.

She also assured the public that the process has so far been transparent and that the commission is committed to maintaining its integrity throughout.

Ghanaians are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the final results, and political tensions have heightened as the NDC raises concern over alleged discrepancies. However, Mrs. Mensa reiterated the EC’s commitment to delivering credible results that reflect the voice of the electorate.

The call for calm and patience comes as the EC continues its meticulous work to consolidate results from across the country.
