The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, after declaring President John Dramani Mahama winner of the 2024 presidential election, has clarified that updates will be made to the provisional results from nine outstanding constituencies.

This announcement was made today, Monday, December 9, 2024, by the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, during a ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters in Accra.

She explained that the Commission could not receive the results from these constituencies due to resistance faced by electoral officers. “We have not been able to receive results from the nine constituencies because our officers have been besieged by political parties’ voters, making it impossible to complete the election process. Notwithstanding, the presidential election results from 267 out of the 276 constituencies, including the newly established constituency, clearly establish the winner of the 2024 presidential elections.”

Madam Mensa further emphasized that even if the votes from these constituencies were added, they would not alter the outcome of the election. “Simply put, even if all the votes from the nine constituencies were awarded to the candidate who placed second, it would not change the outcome of the election. It is important to note that the Commission will update the records on receipt of the presidential results from the nine outstanding constituencies.”

The Electoral Commission assured Ghanaians that the EC’s database would be updated once the results are received from electoral officers in the affected areas.

President John Dramani Mahama was declared winner with 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), securing a decisive victory for himself and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Below are the certified results declared by the Electoral Commission, arranged according to the order on the 2024 ballot paper:

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP): 4,657,304 votes (41.61%)

Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr. (GCPP): 16,673 votes (0.15%)

Kofi Akpaloo (LPG): 5,219 votes (0.09%)

Mohammed Frimpong (NDP): 4,413 votes (0.04%)

Nana Akosua Frimpong (CPP): 23,397 votes (0.21%)

Hassan Abdulai Ayariga (APC): 17,461 votes (0.16%)

Kofi Koranteng (Independent): 3,320 votes (0.03%)

George Twum-Barima Adu (Independent): 3,091 votes (0.02%)
