President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commended Ghana’s first female Vice-President-elect, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, for her groundbreaking achievement in the country’s political history of becoming the first female vice-president in the country.

He described her as a trailblazer for women, highlighting the significance of her victory as an important milestone for gender representation and inspiration for future generations.

Speaking at a meeting during the inauguration of the National Transition Team, he observed that the transition mirrors the events of 2017 when he and the President-elect were in reversed roles.

“We’re back to where we began in 2017, it was the same venue and we were in reverse positions,” he noted.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the constitutional obligation to establish a joint transition team within 24 hours of the election results. He confirmed receipt of the list of representatives from the incoming administration, noting that members of his government had also been duly identified as required by statute.

He assured the nation of his administration’s commitment to a seamless transfer of power, stressing the importance of cooperation to strengthen Ghana’s democratic governance. He reaffirmed Ghana’s position as a model of functional democracy in Africa and pledged to support efforts to deepen and consolidate these democratic principles.
