Election violence: Kumasi High Court remands 14 individuals into prison custody

A Kumasi High Court has remanded fourteen (14) individuals into prison custody for causing violent destruction on election day in Damango, Savannah Region. Two minors were however discharged.

The voilence was reported to have caused delay in the declaration of results, which eventually led to the death of one person.

It was also on record that, the destruction also led to the damage of some items in the office of the Electoral Commission and subsequently setting the office ablaze.

The accused persons faced nine (9) charges, including unlawful damage, assault, causing harm, and obstructing electoral officers in the performance of their duties.

The two minors, were released on the orders of the court to a responsible guardian, Alhaji Imoro Seidu, who was asked to leave his Ghana Card with the Court’s Registrar.

The court announced that pleas would be taken at its next hearing on Thursday December 19, 2024.
