EC nullifies parliamentary results of three constituencies over procedural breaches

The Electoral Commission (EC) has nullified the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North due to procedural breaches and threats to its staff during the collation process.

In a press briefing held in Accra on Thursday, December 19, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa pointed to irregularities that led to the decision.
According to her, for Okaikwei Central, results from 31 polling stations were not included in the collation, while Ablekuma North saw the exclusion of results from 62 polling stations.
She stated that these omissions and the declaration of winners without proper collation rendered the results invalid.

She added that out of 12 constituencies flagged for re-collation, Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North have had the process completed. However, the results for Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North remain unresolved due to procedural lapses.

Madam Jean Mensa stressed that the collation process for constituencies such as Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central were disrupted by violence and unrest. Relocation of collation activities to the Police Training School further escalated disputes over how results were aggregated and handled.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opposed the re-collation, maintaining that results declared at polling stations should remain final.
