An Accra High Court has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to proceed with the collation and declaration of Parliamentary Election results for the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency in the Eastern Region.

Presiding over the case, Justice Rev. Joseph Adu-Owusu Agyeman also instructed the Inspector General of Police to ensure adequate security at all collation centres.

This directive was issued on Friday, December 20, 2024, in response to a Mandamus Application filed by the incumbent Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, seeking to compel the EC to complete the process.

Lawyers for the EC, led by Justine Amenuvor, acknowledged receipt of the application and raised no objections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) secured a court injunction to stop the re-collation of parliamentary results for the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency, amid rising tensions and allegations of irregularities in the election results.

The injunction targeted the Electoral Commission’s (EC) efforts to address disputed results, which had sparked disagreements between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On December 12, the EC had ordered a re-collation of results in four contested constituencies in the Eastern Region, including Suhum, Nsawam, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia. The re-collation process, held at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, encountered delays due to disagreements between the parties, with the NDC raising concerns about discrepancies in the EC’s original pink sheets, leading to the legal action.
