The Mpraeso Circuit Court has reversed the bail for the 17 out of 27 accused persons involved in the alleged kidnapping of Abetifihene Akyeamfour Asiedu Agyemang III.

The reversal comes after the lead prosecutor, State Attorney Cyri Keteku revealed that the 17 accused persons are not national security operatives as perceived.

Cyril Keteku also prayed the court to grant him a warrant for the Cybersecurity unit of the Ghana Police service to get CCTV footage from the Abetifi town at the time the incident happened on November 7, 2024.

However, the counsel for the accused person, Francis Bruce challenged the court to maintain the bail citing that every accused person deserves bail under the law of Ghana regardless of the case.

The Court presided over by Her Honour, Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu cancelled the bail and directed the 17 accused persons to remain in police custody.

She also granted the request by the prosecutor for a warrant to have access to CCTV footage of what happened in the town.

Four out of the 10 remaining suspects have met their bail term leaving the other six to remain in police custody.

The case has been adjourned to January 6, 2025.
