Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Cletus Avoka, has expressed optimism that the security situation in the Bawku area will significantly improve once former President John Dramani Mahama is sworn in as the next president of Ghana.

He stressed the ongoing challenges facing the region, particularly the Bawku conflict, which has hindered development and exacerbated the suffering of residents.

According to him, the conflict in Bawku has diverted essential government resources towards maintaining peacekeepers, including a large number of soldiers, police officers, and national security personnel. These resources, he said, could have been better utilized to address the region’s pressing development needs.

He emphasized that the conflict has contributed to a severe lack of progress in vital sectors. “The road infrastructure is there, the Bawku hospital has become a ghost hospital, the Bawku market has collapsed, financial institutions have closed, everything life has come to a standstill, he stated. He added that these circumstances have led to a decline in the quality of life for residents, with businesses struggling to operate and local traditions being suppressed.

Mr. Avoka expressed hope that with Mr. Mahama’s leadership, the security challenges would be reduced to a minimum, paving the way for the restoration of peace and the rejuvenation of the region’s development.
