The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially declared Faustina Akurugu Elikplim, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, as the winner of the Dome Kwabenya constituency parliamentary election, making her the duly elected Member of Parliament (MP).

This announcement follows a series of disputes between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC over the election results.

Speaking at an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) on December 31, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa confirmed the decision, stating that the electoral process in Dome Kwabenya had been concluded. She emphasized that the EC’s role is to ensure that the results accurately reflect the will of the people, without influencing who becomes president or MP.

“Today, we are pleased to announce that the proceedings and collation at the Dome Kwabenya Constituency have come to a close. It has gone full circle, and we are convinced beyond any shadow of doubt that the outcome reflects the will of the people as expressed at the polls”, she said.

After re-collating the votes, Faustina Akurugu Elikplim received 50,967 votes, while the NPP’s Mike Oquaye Junior secured 50,669 votes. This final declaration brings an end to the contentious election and strengthens the NDC’s position in the constituency, as Faustina Akurugu Elikplim prepares to take up her parliamentary role. Additionally, the planned re-run at the outstanding polling station has been canceled.
