The Judicial Service Staff Association (JUSAG) says it has petitioned Chief Justice, Getrude Torkornor to expedite the approval process of its proposed salary review, else they would embark on a strike.

According to the association, the Judicial Council has completed its proposal to review its salaries and related allowances to President Akufo-Addo for approval in line with Article 149 of the Constitution.

“JUSAG submitted a proposal to the Judicial Council to review our salaries and related allowances. The Council completed its work and submitted same to the President for his approval in line with Article 149 of the Constitution. The recent directive by the President to Parliament to consider the budget of the Audit Service, Parliamentary Service, and the Judicial Service is a positive move as the budget goes with compensations (including salaries and allowances)”.

JUSAG in a statement expressed disappointment in the delay in approval processes saying it warned of mapped out roadmap to embark on a series of industrial actions.

“Despite the positive development, we noted with concern the delay in the approval process.
We have also mapped out a number of industrial action tools that could be activated should the Government unduly delay the approval implementation.”

The statement added that, “Our commitment to the speedy approval of the new salary structure is resolute”.
