Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has hinted that Ghana’s major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), could be linked to the recent fire outbreak at the Kantamanto market in Accra.

Speaking during an Instagram Live session on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Gyan expressed concern about the devastating incident and suggested that both parties might have motives for involvement.

“What is going on? It can be NPP or NDC. The NPP can burn the place to irritate the people, whilst the NDC could use the fire as a secret plan to clear the space for a project,” he said.

Gyan also proposed that the NDC might have instigated the fire to obtain state funds for rebuilding, while the NPP could have initiated it to hold the NDC responsible.

“I’m not taking sides because I don’t want to be used again. So, when I’m talking, I’m talking. I don’t take anyone’s side,” he emphasized.

The Kantamanto fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, January 2, 2025, at around 1:00 a.m., causing extensive damage.

The blaze destroyed over 1000 shops, leaving traders in distress.
