Richmond Agyabeng Amponsah, Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), has expressed support for President John Mahama’s decision to revoke their appointments.

In an interview on an Accra based TV station, Mr. Amponsah acknowledged that the announcement did not come as a surprise as they were expecting it to happen.

According to him, they were expecting this outcome once there was a change of government following the December 7 election.

“We were expecting this, so it is not surprising. We were actually looking forward to it and whether it came late or not, nothing would have changed. Bawumia conceded defeat, and we all prepared ourselves to go with his after the defeat. Although we didn’t expect it to come today we are prepared and ready to leave”he stated.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, President John Mahama revoked the appointments of all Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

The announcement was detailed in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and addressed to the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development.

Following the revocation, Coordinating Directors of the respective MMDAs have been instructed to take over as acting Chief Executives until permanent appointments are made.
