Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Finance Minister-designate, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to reintroduce road toll collections as part of the government’s revenue generation strategy.

During his vetting on Monday, January13, Dr. Forson emphasized that the NDC had consistently maintained its stance on the return of tolls, highlighting the party’s promise to deliver on policies aimed at raising funds for infrastructure maintenance.

He explained that road tolls serve as a significant revenue stream and are essential for maintaining the country’s road network. He stressed that Ghana would not be the first or last country to implement such a system, as road users contributing to infrastructure upkeep is a standard global practice.

Addressing concerns about previous challenges with property rate collections, he acknowledged the earlier centralization efforts, which were eventually reversed due to operational difficulties. However, he assured that under his leadership, revenue collection mechanisms, including property rates, would be managed more effectively and efficiently to ensure funds generated are properly utilized for developmental projects.

Dr. Forson reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to staying true to its promises, stating that the party would continue to implement policies that ensure sustainable revenue generation while prioritizing transparency and accountability.
