The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cautioned chiefs under his jurisdiction against involving their wives in traditional affairs.

He emphasized that traditional leadership remains the exclusive responsibility of Chiefs and Queens, as dictated by custom.

Speaking at the first Asanteman Council meeting of the year, Otumfuo expressed concern over the growing trend of spouses interfering in traditional matters, describing it as uncustomary and a breach of tradition.

Otumfuo further clarified that while Queens have a significant role in traditional governance, they are not permitted to express their views during council meetings. Instead, tradition requires that Queens convey their opinions privately to the chief at home.

The Asantehene also urged Chiefs and Queens to resolve disputes privately, without involving stool elders or third parties. He warned that bringing such disagreements into the public domain undermines the dignity of their stools.

For conflict resolution, Otumfuo advised that only the Family Head or Gyaasehene should be consulted if necessary, to maintain the integrity of the traditional institution.
