Education Minister Designate, Haruna Iddrisu has unveiled an ambitious vision for transforming Ghana’s education system, focusing on enhancing quality and relevance at all levels.

According to him, the education sector will focus on enhancing accessibility quality, and relevance at the tertiary level, ensuring that institutions produce graduates equipped for meaningful contributions to the country’s progress

During his vetting on January 20, he said foundational learning at the secondary level will be a key area of emphasis, aimed at fostering critical thinkers who can shape the future. He noted that a comprehensive review of pedagogy and curriculum across all levels of education will be undertaken to align with Ghana’s aspirations for national development.

Haruna Iddrisu also expressed the government’s commitment to STEM education, stating that at least one modern STEM school will be established in every region. These schools, which will cater to students from kindergarten to senior high school, are designed to prepare learners for the future of work by equipping them with skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

He observed that the country must train more people in science, information communication technology, and engineering to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. He added that tertiary institutions will be expected to strengthen their collaboration with industry, ensuring that students receive practical training without compromising academic excellence.

He acknowledged the progress made in STEM initiatives and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to building a robust education system that supports the nation’s sustainable development goals.
