The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended its condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives during a clash between illegal miners and military personnel at the AngloGold Ashanti Mines in Obuasi. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, resulted in the death of eight individuals.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, expressed the party’s sorrow for the loss of lives and strongly condemned the violence.

Ahiagbah alleged that since the December 2024 elections, members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), particularly its youth, have been unlawfully taking over government properties, citing their party’s victory.

He accused President John Dramani Mahama of remaining silent on the matter, allowing NDC members to act with impunity.

He further stated that the leadership of the NDC must take responsibility for the lives lost in the Obuasi clash, emphasizing that such behavior is unlawful and unacceptable.

The NPP called for calm and urged authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly while ensuring that justice is served for the victims and their families.
