Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has toured the Tema Harbour to assess the status of about 2,500 containers procured by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) but left uncleared at the port.

The visit highlights the Minister’s commitment to tackling inefficiencies in the energy sector and ensuring the responsible use of national resources.

The containers, which hold essential materials purchased under the previous administration, have incurred a staggering demurrage charges of GHS 1.5 billion.

The situation exposes major shortcomings in resource management and inter-agency coordination, placing a significant financial strain on the nation.

John Jinapor expressed strong concern over the situation, labeling it unacceptable, and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to improving operational efficiency and accountability.

He highlighted the need for immediate action to clear the containers, which would help reduce further financial losses and support the implementation of crucial energy projects for the benefit of the nation.

The Minister assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent such issues in the future, emphasizing the necessity of effective resource management to drive the country’s developmental progress.
