President John Dramani Mahama has established a seven-member National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee as part of his 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians.

This initiative seeks to address Ghana’s pressing economic challenges while creating a foundation for sustainable development. Chaired by renowned economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson, the committee will organize a high-level dialogue aimed at fostering consultation and consensus on policies critical for transforming Ghana into a high-growth, inclusive, and resilient economy. The committee has been tasked with submitting its report within four weeks.

Other members of the committee include Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir.

In a statement issued on January 26, 2025, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, outlined the objectives of the NED, which include communicating the true state of Ghana’s economy to stakeholders and citizens.

The committee is also tasked with developing a homegrown fiscal consolidation program to guide the national budget and identifying structural reforms and policy priorities necessary for an economic reset.

The National Economic Dialogue represents a pivotal step in tackling Ghana’s economic challenges, ranging from fiscal sustainability to structural transformation and resilience.
