Government renews curfew on Bunkpurugu Township amidst rising tensions

Government renews curfew on Bunkpurugu Township amidst rising tensions

The Ministry for the Interior has renewed the curfew on Bunkpurugu Township and its environs in the North East Region.

This directive, which began on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, comes by Executive Instrument in response to escalating tensions in the area.

The curfew is effective from 8:00 pm to 6:00am.

According to the Ministry, the government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint and adopt non-violent means to address their challenges.

The Ministry has assured that government’s remains poised at channeling efforts towards ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Additionally, a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Bunkpurugu Township and its surrounding areas is in effect.

The Ministry reiterated that individuals found carrying such items would be arrested and prosecuted.

IMPOSITION OF CURFEW ON BUNKPURUGU TOWNSHIP AND ITS ENVIRONS IN THE NORTH EAST REGION

The Minister for the Interior, has by Executive Instrument renewed the Curfew hours imposed on Bunkpurugu Township and its environs in the North East Region from 8:00pm to 6:00am effective Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace to the area.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Bunkpurugu Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
