A tragic incident occurred during Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League Matchweek 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC at the Nana Koramansah Park, as a Kotoko supporter succumbed to injuries sustained during violent clashes.

The match was marred by hostility from sections of the home crowd, with tensions escalating throughout the game. Kotoko officials reported multiple instances of things being thrown at their bench, creating a dangerous environment for players and staff. The club’s Head of Media suffered a serious ear injury after being struck by an object, while goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was physically attacked by some supporters who invaded the pitch.

The violence took a devastating turn when a Kotoko fan was stabbed during the chaos. He was rushed to the hospital but later passed away, plunging the Kotoko fraternity into mourning.

The club’s equipment, including laptops and communication devices, were also damaged. Despite the incident, Kotoko completed the match, demonstrating professionalism in difficult circumstances.

The club has called on the Ghana Football Association to take swift action against those responsible and to implement stronger security measures at league venues to prevent further tragedies.

Kotoko expressed deep condolences to the deceased fan’s family and reiterated the need for a safer football environment for players, officials, and supporters.
