President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s constitutional review process includes a more defined and meaningful role for traditional authorities in national development.

Speaking during his thank-you tour in the Western Region, he emphasized the importance of chiefs in maintaining peace, preserving culture, and driving development. He acknowledged their resilience in safeguarding the integrity of society, especially in challenging times, and urged them to be active participants in the ongoing constitutional review process.

He stressed that Ghana’s governance structures must reflect the country’s rich traditions, making it imperative that traditional leaders are not merely symbolic figures but key players in decision-making at all levels of government. The review process, he noted, seeks to elevate their role beyond ceremonial duties and integrate them into the governance framework in a more substantive way.

Highlighting the economic significance of the Western Region, he pointed out its immense contributions to Ghana’s national wealth through resources such as cocoa, oil, and timber. Despite this, he expressed concern that the region has not received its fair share of development. He assured the people that under his leadership, the Western Region would be prioritized in the national development agenda.

His vision for the region includes better infrastructure, quality healthcare, improved education, and increased job opportunities. He emphasized that the wealth of the region must translate into tangible benefits for its people, ensuring a higher standard of living. He reiterated his dedication to bridging the development gap and making the Western Region a focal point of Ghana’s progress.
