Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong, Alidu Seidu has emphasized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) willingness to field Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their 2028 Presidential candidate.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Alidu Seidu noted that there is a group in the NPP calling for a different candidate to represent the party in the 2028 elections but he will urge party Sympathisers to rally behind Dr. Bawumia because he believes he can deliver.

He added that, Dr. Bawumia and the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections wasn’t the fault of Dr. Bawumia but rather the internal problems between party executives and party supporters which he said when resolved could ensure victory for the party in 2028.

He argued that in 1996 the NPP presented Former President John Agyekum Kufuor as their candidate and lost but was brought again in 2000 which he won, also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presented the Late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills but he lost to Kufuor and he was brought again in 2004 lost again but won in 2008, same as Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was presented in both 2008 and 2012 but lost the elections and later won in 2016. Alidu Seidu emphasized that it is only fair for the party to present Dr. Bawumia again in the 2028 elections.

He urged party executives and supporters to fix their internal issues and work towards victory in 2028 with Dr. Bawumia as presidential candidate.
