The government, following the announcement of a slash down on expenditure earlier today for Independence day celebrations has disclosed plans to redirect the saved funds toward enhancing key policies under the nation’s reset agenda, spearheaded by the Mahama-led administration.

Speaking at a press conference streamed live earlier today, Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed that the state has paid in past times, huge sums of Ghana cedis to hold the national event.

“The last celebrations, which were held in Ho, cost the country a staggering 15 million Ghana cedis. Every time it has been hosted in a regional capital apart from Accra, we’ve had to bear such costs.”

The Minister for Government Communications highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s directive as a prudent measure, especially given the current economic constraints.

The funds are expected to be directed toward critical government policies, optimizing initiatives set to be launched by the NDC government.

“President Mahama has indicated what his priorities are in terms of public expenditure. He has spoken about job creation, the 24-hour economy, and the Big Push, which involves significant infrastructural rollouts,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.
