Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, has inaugurated a seven-member committee to review the recruitment processes into Ghana’s security services.

The committee is expected to evaluate current procedures and recommend reforms to enhance transparency, fairness, and efficiency in the recruitment process.

According to the minister, the establishment of the committee forms part of efforts to address concerns raised about partisanship and perceived biases in the recruitment of personnel into the security sector.

He emphasized the importance of creating a system that is free from undue political influence and ensures equal opportunities for all qualified applicants.

According to him, the review will focus on identifying gaps and inefficiencies in the existing recruitment mechanisms while proposing strategies to improve inclusivity and merit-based selection. The committee will also examine best practices from other countries to ensure that Ghana’s security services maintain high professional standards.

He said the seven-member body is expected to engage with various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, security experts, and the general public, to gather input for a comprehensive report. This approach is aimed at ensuring that the recommendations reflect the diverse perspectives and needs of Ghanaians.

The committee has been given a set timeline to submit its findings and proposals, which will guide the government in implementing a reformed recruitment process. The Interior minister is optimistic that this initiative will build public confidence in the security services and promote national unity through equitable recruitment practices.
