The Ghanaian sensation clocked an incredible time of 2:06.34, winning Heat 5 and finishing 21st overall in a highly competitive field of 211 athletes.

This performance marks another milestone in Abigail Abugire’s already remarkable debut season, further cementing her status as one of the nation’s top middle-distance runners.

Abugire’s record-breaking run in Boston comes just weeks after she first set the program record in the 800m at the Red Raider Invitational with a time of 2:07.19. That performance earned her the Lone Star Conference Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award and placed her second in the nation among NCAA Division II athletes. Now, with her latest achievement, Abugire has proven that her early success was no fluke, and she is only getting faster as the season progresses.

The Lady Buffs’ standout has been a revelation this season, showcasing a rare combination of speed, endurance, and composure beyond her years. Her ability to compete at such a high level against both Division I and Division II athletes has made her one of the most exciting young talents in collegiate track and field.

Abugire’s success is part of a larger wave of excellence for the West Texas A&M track and field program, which set four new school records over the weekend at both the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston. The Lady Buffs also made history in the women’s 4x400m relay, setting a new program record with a time of 3:41.65 to close out the Jarvis Scott Open in style.

As the Buffs and Lady Buffs prepare to defend their titles at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships on February 21-22 in Albuquerque, Abugire’s record-breaking performances have positioned her as a favorite to dominate the middle-distance events. Her rapid rise and consistent improvement have not only elevated her own profile but have also brought national attention to West Texas A&M’s growing track and field program.

With her latest record-breaking run, Abigail Abugire has once again proven that she is a force to be reckoned with.
