The junior from Ghana clocked an impressive time of 8:00.35, finishing 14th in his heat and 73rd overall in a highly competitive field of 243 runners. This performance marks yet another milestone in Aziz Mohammed’s already illustrious career, further solidifying his status as one of the nation’s top distance runners.

Aziz Mohammed’s record-breaking run in Boston comes on the heels of a stellar start to 2025, where he claimed victory in the men’s mile at the Corky Classic with a time of 4:09.84, the eighth-fastest indoor mile in program history.

His consistency and determination have been on full display this season, as he continues to build on his remarkable achievements from 2024, which included setting meet and school records in the mile (3:58.56) and leading WT’s 4x800m relay team to a national title at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

The weekend in Boston also saw Aziz Mohammed contribute to the men’s distance medley relay team, which ran the fourth-fastest time in program history (9:50.23) to win their event. Teaming up with Calvin Allen, Aymeric Femerely, Prince Mcabelo, and William Amponsah, Mohammed showcased his versatility and teamwork, further highlighting his value to the Buffs’ track and field program.

Williams Amponsah, Mohammed’s fellow countryman, also had a standout performance in Boston, breaking his own school record in the men’s 5,000m with a time of 13:33.75.

The duo’s success has been a driving force behind West Texas A&M’s dominance in distance events this season.

As the Buffs and Lady Buffs prepare to defend their titles at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships on February 21-22 in Albuquerque, Mohammed’s record-breaking performances have set the tone for what promises to be an electrifying championship meet. With his relentless drive and unparalleled talent, Aziz Mohammed is poised to lead West Texas A&M to even greater heights in 2025.

The Buffs’ track and field program continues to shine on the national stage, with four new school records set this weekend across the Jarvis Scott Open in Lubbock and the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
