Minister of State designate for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has outlined her plans to enhance productivity in Ghana’s public sector.
Speaking at her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, she explained that productivity heavily relies on the level of motivation public sector receives. “You can’t get productivity if there is no motivation. The two of them move together,” she stated.
To drive productivity, Akanvariba proposed implementing appraisals based on an effective monitoring and evaluation system. She stressed that workers who are appraised and found to be performing effectively should be duly motivated.
As a major reform, she plans to introduce measures that will help workers reach their maximum potential. These include key performance indicators, a conducive working environment, and training and capacity-building programs.
