A Triple Gold Triumph
Abugire’s performance at the LSC Championships was nothing short of spectacular. She kicked off her gold medal haul with a victory in the women’s mile, clocking a time of 4:52.11—the fifth-fastest indoor mile in West Texas A&M (WT) history. She followed that up with another commanding win in the 800m, finishing in 2:10.00, the third-best mark in WT indoor history. To cap off her incredible day, Abugire anchored the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team to victory, showcasing her versatility and endurance.

A Record-Breaking Season
Abugire’s triple gold performance at the LSC Championships is the latest chapter in what has been a record-breaking debut season. Just weeks ago, she shattered her own school record in the 800m at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, clocking an incredible 2:06.34. That performance came on the heels of her first school record in the 800m at the Red Raider Invitational, where she ran a 2:07.19. Her consistency and rapid improvement have made her a standout in NCAA Division II track and field.

A Key Player in WT’s Dominance
Abugire’s success is a testament to her hard work and the strength of the West Texas A&M track and field program. The Lady Buffs continued their dominance at the LSC Championships, winning their 12th consecutive team title 1with an impressive 219.50 points. Abugire’s contributions were pivotal, as she led the charge in the middle-distance events and played a crucial role in the DMR victory.

Her performances have not only elevated her own profile but have also brought national attention to WT’s growing track and field program. With Abugire leading the way, the Lady Buffs are poised to make a strong showing at the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 14-15.

What’s Next for Abugire?
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Abigail Abugire as she prepares to compete on the national stage. Her ability to deliver under pressure, combined with her relentless drive to improve, makes her a favorite to dominate at the NCAA Championships. For Abugire, this is just the beginning. With her talent, determination, and passion for the sport, the sky is truly the limit.
