The Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa has clarified that it is not standard practice for the commission’s members, including the chairperson and deputies, to attend swearing-in ceremonies unless they receive a formal invitation.

Speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday, February 26, to review the 2024 general elections, Jean Mensa explained that the EC did not receive an invitation to attend President John Dramani Mahama’s swearing-in or any ministerial inaugurations.

Her statement was in response to inquiries about her absence from President Mahama’s inauguration.

Jean Mensa addressed the matter, stating she was in the country, but as a matter of policy, EC members, including the chairperson and deputies, do not attend swearing-in ceremonies unless invited and they never received an invitation to any such event.

“I know that dignitaries and special guests are invited, but it has always been a matter of policy that we do not attend swearing-in ceremonies. At least for the duration that we have been in office, we have never attended any swearing-in ceremony,” she stated.
