The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has assured Parliament of the central bank’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the ongoing development of its new corporate headquarters.

Addressing Parliament, on Wednesday, March 5, Dr. Asiama acknowledged the public interest surrounding the project, noting that while it was initiated before his tenure, the current administration is determined to manage resources efficiently.

He emphasized that a reconstituted Bank of Ghana Board, set to be unveiled next week, will thoroughly review the project and other legacy issues.

As part of efforts to ensure value for money, the Governor indicated that the Board will be briefed by the project team on the progress and financial details of the building.

Additionally, authorization will be sought to engage an independent firm, AESL, to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the project’s cost and overall worth.

This move, he stated, aims to provide clarity and resolve lingering concerns over the expenditure on the new headquarters.

Dr. Asiama further assured the House that documents detailing key aspects of the project had been submitted to the leadership of Parliament for scrutiny. He encouraged members to review the documents thoroughly and direct any questions to his team for further clarification.

The new Bank of Ghana office complex has been a subject of public debate, with concerns raised over its cost and necessity amid economic challenges.

He said the upcoming Board review and independent evaluation are expected to shed more light on the project and address transparency concerns surrounding its execution.
