Five of the six accused persons involved in the Payroll fraud case have been granted bail by a Commercial Court in Tamale with strict conditions.

According to a statement released by the Special Prosecutor, the sixth accused was absent due to a late service of court documents.

The accused—Yakubu Tahidu, Abdulai Abukari Sadic, Sammy Suuk, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, and Osman Issahaku—faced 17 charges of corruption and financial misconduct, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The case centers around allegations of fraudulent payroll activities resulting in financial losses to the state.

Under the bail terms, the accused must either surrender their passports or, if they don’t possess one, submit their Ghana Cards.

Also, each must provide two sureties, with one required to be a senior public servant.

The case, triggered by a National Security referral, includes allegations against Yakubu Tahidu for continuing to draw a teacher’s salary while employed by a different government agency.

The other defendants are accused of either facilitating or failing to prevent the fraudulent transactions.

The trial has been adjourned to April 1, 2025, allowing the legal process to continue.
