The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed frustration over the delay in the submission of the final list of deputy ministers to Parliament.

He questioned why President John Dramani Mahama has not fulfilled his public commitment.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reminded the House that the President, while swearing in a batch of deputy ministers last Wednesday, had assured that the final list would be sent to Parliament within the week.

He said a week later, the list was yet to be received.

“Mr. Speaker, you just said there is no message from the President, but Mr. Speaker today is Tuesday. Last Wednesday, was when the President swore in the deputy ministers, and the media reported him to have said that he was sending the last four of his list of deputy ministerial nominees to Parliament. And I actually watched the video as well apart from the media report and Mr. President he referred to this week and he was speaking on Wednesday at the swearing-in at the Jubilee House that he was going to send the list to Parliament.
So Mr. Speaker saying that you have not received any communication from the presidency well I find it strange,” he said.

He emphasized that the President, as the leader of government business, must keep his commitments, and it was the duty of Parliament to hold him accountable.

The Minority Leader urged the Speaker and the Majority side to demand the list from the Presidency, stressing that government business in Parliament must not be stalled due to unfulfilled promises.
