The Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, which seeks to revoke the President’s authority to grant mining licenses in forest reserves, has officially been laid before Parliament.
This development follows intense procedural debates between the Majority and Minority caucuses earlier in the week.
The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, presented the L.I. on behalf of the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
He emphasized the importance of this measure, stating, “the revocation of mining rights in forest reserves will have a profound impact on forest conservation.”
