Kumasi City Market Management suspended following trader complaints

Kumasi City Market Management suspended following trader complaints

The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC) has directed the management of the Kumasi City Market (Kejetia) to step aside following multiple petitions from traders and stakeholders regarding the market’s administration.

In a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the ARCC announced the formation of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the market’s operations.

The decision comes after a series of meetings involving the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), the market’s management, and the Regional Minister. Discussions focused on pressing issues such as sanitation, unpaid utility bills, and other concerns affecting traders.

According to the statement, the Interim Management Committee has been tasked with overseeing market affairs while investigations are conducted to verify allegations made against the previous management.

The newly appointed committee comprises Prince Ofori Atta as Chairman, Amoah Prince Nyarko as Operations Manager, and Nana Prempeh Amankwaa in charge of security.

Traders have long raised concerns about poor management practices, which they say have negatively impacted their businesses. The ARCC’s decision is expected to bring stability and transparency to the market’s operations while ensuring accountability.

The ARCC has requested that the previous management makes all necessary documents available to facilitate the transition and investigation.
