The (FMC) has thanked President John Dramani Mahama for declaring March 31 and April 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a press statement to the Ghana News Agency, signed by FMC General Secretary Al-Hajj Muhammad Amir Kpakpo Addo, the Council acknowledged the President’s fulfillment of his campaign promise to the Muslim community.

The statement emphasized that the additional holiday would help Muslims fully observe the festival, addressing challenges posed by the 29 or 30-day lunar calendar.

“We are grateful to President Mahama for recognizing the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr and declaring an additional public holiday to enable Muslims to celebrate this joyous occasion,” parts of the statement read.

FMC highlighted that the extended holiday would promote unity, inclusivity, and religious tolerance in Ghana, enabling Muslims to celebrate with their families and loved ones.

The organization praised the President’s leadership in fostering national unity and social cohesion, encouraging all Muslims to use the opportunity to celebrate peacefully while embracing the values of tolerance and understanding.

“Eid Mubarak to all Muslims in Ghana and around the world!” the statement concluded.
