The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has declared that women do not just deserve a seat at the economic table they have earned it.

Speaking in Parliament, she emphasized that financial literacy and access to credit are crucial for women’s economic empowerment.

She called on the government, financial institutions, and stakeholders to roll out nationwide financial literacy programs, ensuring that women, especially those in rural areas, understand and utilize mobile money, digital banking, and business financing tools effectively.

“A financially literate woman is an empowered woman, an empowered woman is a force for national development,” she stated.

She commended the government for its commitment to women’s economic empowerment, particularly the allocation of seed funding for the Women’s Development Bank in the 2025 budget.

She described this initiative as a transformative step toward bridging the financial gap for women entrepreneurs.

Highlighting the significant contributions of women to Ghana’s economy, she noted that despite their hard work, many still struggle to access credit due to high-interest rates, lack of collateral, and limited financial education.

She urged Ghana to learn from countries like India, Bangladesh, and Rwanda, where targeted financial programs have successfully empowered women entrepreneurs.

She also urged leaders to break financial barriers and create an economy where every Ghanaian woman has the financial power to succeed.
