The meeting provided an opportunity to address key challenges and explore collaborative initiatives between the two countries.

Mr. Akandoh emphasized the pressing need for increased funding to strengthen the implementation of healthcare processes.

He outlined a proposed incentive package aimed at supporting health workers in rural areas.

The package includes an additional 20% of their basic salaries, faster promotions, scholarships for further training, and paid study leave—measures designed to retain skilled professionals in underserved regions.

The Minister also highlighted the need for six new hospitals to serve Ghana’s recently created regions and plans to upgrade regional and teaching hospitals to attract more skilled health personnel.

High Commissioner Byone-Sutherland commended Ghana’s efforts to improve its healthcare system and suggested that nurses from Barbados could participate in health training programs in Ghana to gain valuable practical experience.

The meeting underscored the importance of international collaboration and knowledge sharing to address healthcare challenges and improve outcomes for citizens.

The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to creating a robust healthcare system that ensures quality services for all Ghanaians.
