The Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Boateng, has called for increased financial support for Ghana’s security forces to address the growing threats facing the nation.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, March 27, Mr. Boateng emphasized the critical role security agencies play in maintaining Ghana’s peace in a region plagued by instability.

He credited the country’s stability to the diligence and dedication of security personnel, stressing that their efforts must be reinforced with adequate resources.

“Mr. Speaker, in recent times we all know that the world has become a very big stage for geopolitical drama. And it has real effects on countries. You can decide to play in there or stay aloof, but it does not mean that you are not affected. Your survival at the global stage now and all that is happening has to do with the timeous obtain of intel and very apt security operations. Mr. Speaker, if you lapse in any of these you will find your jurisdiction in a very big trouble,” he said.

He highlighted the increasing complexity of global security dynamics, pointing out that geopolitical tensions have real consequences for countries, whether they choose to actively engage or remain passive.

According to him, intelligence gathering and timely security interventions are crucial in preventing potential threats.

Mr. Boateng also raised concerns about illegal mining (galamsey), which he described as a growing security issue.

He cited recent incidents where armed individuals engaged in illegal mining activities clashed with security forces, underscoring the need for better-equipped personnel to handle such situations.

Additionally, he pointed to land disputes and chieftaincy conflicts as other key security risks that demand urgent attention.

He urged prioritizing funding for the security sector to ensure officers have the necessary tools to maintain peace and stability.
