A Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju has died after collapsing during his bout against Ghana’s John Mbanugu, popularly known as “Power”.
In a viral video seen by Happy News, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju was seen delivering punches but couldn’t hold up after John Mbanugu retaliated with some heavy punches of his own.
The Nigerian who couldn’t handled the fire power of his opponent slumped to the canvas of the boxing ring.
As he slumped, he hanged helplessly on the ropes before the referee, noticing something was badly wrong, rushed to him and called for medical assistance.
The health officials at the venue attended to him with some first aid before rushing him to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
However he couldn’t survive as he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
Before the unfortunate incident on Saturday, March 29, 2025, Olanrewaju had previously fought Idowu Raheed at the Campos Mini Stadium in Lagos on Christmas eve, December 24, 2024.
