President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning against the unlawful construction of buildings in waterways and protected lands.

Addressing Muslims At the National Eid-ul-Fitr celebration held at the Black Star Square, President Mahama highlighted the dangers posed by land encroachment, including blocked waterways and the destruction of natural drainage systems.

“The illegal construction of buildings in waterways has caused flooding and extensive property damage”.

With the rainy season already leading to flooding in some areas, the President vowed decisive action to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of Ghanaians.

He specifically called out private developers who, in collaboration with some chiefs, have converted Ramsar-protected sites into residential zones.

He described these actions as “reckless and dangerous.”

“Let me be clear, this must stop. Those structures will be pulled down, and we will not allow a few selfish individuals to endanger the lives and livelihoods of countless others”.
