President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians to embrace the spirit of generosity and kindness.

According to him, true wealth is not measured by how much one accumulates but by how much one gives to support the less privileged in society.

Speaking at a gathering during the holy month of Ramadan, President Mahama highlighted the core Islamic teachings on charity, kindness, and giving.

He stressed that the practice of Zakat and Sadaka serves as a reminder that the well-being of society depends on collective responsibility and care for the vulnerable.

“As we observe Ramadan, let us not forget our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate and are struggling. This includes orphans, the homeless, the unemployed, and the elderly. We must extend a helping hand to them,” he stated.

President Mahama called on Muslims and non-Muslims alike to make a conscious effort to engage in acts of kindness beyond the Ramadan period.

He encouraged the congregation to take practical steps in supporting those in need, urging everyone to make it a priority to help an orphan, the elderly, or any vulnerable person in their communities.

“Indeed, when we leave here after Salah, everyone should look for an orphan and an elderly person and show them an act of kindness. That is what Ramadan is about. Let us carry on acts of kindness beyond this sacred period,” he added.

He further noted that providing for the vulnerable is not just an Islamic duty but a national responsibility, one that strengthens the moral fabric of the country. According to him, a nation that cares for its vulnerable population is a nation that will always be blessed.

“The strength of any nation lies in its ability to uplift those who are struggling. Let us reach out to those in great need, for a caring and compassionate society is one that will prosper,” President Mahama added.
