The Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Jinapor, has formally requested the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to prosecute individuals implicated in the case of missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers.

According to him, as part of efforts to ensure accountability, the ministry has also directed the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to conduct a thorough forensic investigation to trace the missing containers.

The investigation aims to establish the whereabouts of the containers and determine those responsible for their disappearance.

In addition to these measures, Mr. Jinapor noted that steps have been taken to secure the remaining containers to prevent further losses.

The National Security apparatus has been engaged to safeguard the containers still in storage.

This move he said will facilitate a comprehensive reconciliation process to determine the exact number of containers accounted for and those that remain missing.

He assured that authorities are also working to ensure all containers with verified contents are put to proper use, particularly in the production of wires.

The objective is to prevent further financial losses and ensure that resources meant for the country’s energy sector are not misappropriated.

Mr. Jinapor reaffirmed that the government remains committed to addressing the issue decisively, ensuring that those responsible face legal consequences while preventing similar occurrences in the future.
