A new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the leading candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership ahead of the 2028 elections.

According to the poll results, Dr. Bawumia secured 48.1% of voter preference, positioning him as the frontrunner to lead the NPP into the next electoral cycle. Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, followed with 25.1%, while former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum garnered 12.5% support. Others include Kwabena Agyapong, 7.2%, Brian Acheampong 4.1% and Francis Addai Nimo having 3.0%

The poll provides early insights into the political landscape within the largest opposition party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections. Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, has long been considered a top contender for the party’s future leadership, given his influence and role in government.

Kennedy Agyapong, who placed second, gained prominence during the NPP’s 2023 presidential primaries, where he emerged as a strong competitor against Dr. Bawumia. His appeal among grassroots supporters remains significant, making him a key figure in the party’s internal dynamics.

The poll results, shared by Global InfoAnalytics on their Facebook page, has since sparked discussions within political circles, with analysts weighing in on the potential implications for the NPP’s leadership transition after the 2024 general elections.
